Our first shower!!

Jindabyne, NSW

Monday 28th – Wed 30th March

We left Geehi early on Monday morning, aiming to be on the road before too many other cars. Towing our large van up the steep, winding road towards Jindabyne required some very skilled, and patient, driving by Daniel. On some sections we were driving at less than 20km an hour, with the kids commenting that it would be quicker for them to walk!

We eventually made it past the worst section of road, then we stopped for breakfast and coffee with a view at Dead Horse Gap (1582m high), much to the amusement of passing cars and bike riders!

We checked into our first caravan park of the trip at Jindabyne and we were all eagerly awaiting our first shower! That afternoon Daniel took the kids for an explore whilst I caught up emails, did some work, organised the blog and sorted out a few things from home. There is a lot to organise when you are travelling for so long, particularly ensuring that nothing would be posted to us anymore. I’d begun changing all bills and other correspondence to email only last year, but turns out I’d forgotten to update my details at the bank – my new debit card was sent to our old address in Bundalong! Thankfully Karen, who is living there now, has become a friend and is forwarding the card on for me.

We all enjoyed long, hot showers that evening – the showers were well worth paying for a few nights in a caravan park.

On Tuesday we walked along the edge of Lake Jindabyne to the dam wall. The lake was glassy and Daniel desperately wanted to barefoot across! We are super keen to come back with the boat in the future.

That afternoon Daniel took the kids fishing at a few nearby fishing holes that he knew, whilst I finished off my work for the week. They arrived home several hours later buzzing with excitement – Jackson had caught two trout and Daniel had caught one. They fished with lures, which is much more work than just with bait, so it was great that they were rewarded for their efforts.

The sunset over the lake was divine this evening – Jindabyne certainly impressed us.

Photo bomb!!

I'm just trying to catch my breath after sprinting to make it into the photo after I set the self timer on the camera.

Lake Jindabyne was like glass both days we were there.

The sunset on the second night was magical.

The colours on the lake were so much more vibrant than the camera was able to catch.
Jindabyne really put on a show for us.
